Summer "Making the Cut" Tryout System
What & Why
The academy plans a summer "Making the Cut" program where athletes try out for competitive spots in the upcoming season. This needs a structured evaluation workflow: athletes register for tryout sessions, coaches evaluate them using standardized criteria, athletes are ranked and sorted into tiers, and families receive clear communication about outcomes. The existing skill assessment and evaluation infrastructure (coach_athlete_evaluations, athlete_skill_assessments) provides the foundation, but there's no tryout-specific workflow, multi-evaluator scoring, cut-line management, or outcome communication.Done looks like
- A "Making the Cut" event type (or a dedicated mode for TRAINING_TEAM events) with tryout-specific registration
- Tryout sessions where multiple coaches independently evaluate each athlete on standardized criteria
- A scoring dashboard that aggregates evaluations across coaches, showing composite scores and ranking
- Cut-line management — admins set tier thresholds (e.g., top 12 = Elite, next 12 = Advanced, remaining = Development) and can adjust before publishing
- Athletes/parents see their tryout result: tier placement, strengths noted, and development areas
- Waitlist management for athletes just below a cut-line
- Staffing contingency planning — admins can model "what if" scenarios for coach availability and see how it affects team capacity and tier sizes
Out of scope
- Video review or upload of tryout footage
- External scouting or recruiting tools
- Automated tier placement (coaches and admins make final decisions)
